KATHY'S BIO

Since her first performance at age 16, Kathy has been a busy professional singer, getting her roots as a voice major at Humber College in Toronto, Canada and studying with many voice teachers. She then went to Ottawa where after Basic Training, singing with the Royal Canadian Air Force 55-piece Central Band (Rank: Sergeant) for 3 years. At home in Toronto she has done performances numbering into the thousands: clubs, festivals, corporate events, private functions, television, film & recordings.

Kathy established her own band as well as the RSVP Jazz Quartet, both of which are ongoing today. She was a founding member of The Singers Guild of Toronto.

Kathy was elected to the Board of Directors, Toronto Musicians’ Association/ American Federation of Musicians for a two year term where she was also an active member of the Public Relations Committee and the Events Committee to support the art of live music. She was an industry rep to National Assoc. of Catering Executives (N.A.C.E.) and active in contract negotiations for Local 149. During her term, she was appointed to be the chair of the contract revision committee. After 18 drafts, she designed the new contract for all Local 149miscellaneous & steady engagements.
Kathy was the "See The Music" talent guide editor, co-ordinator, sales, layout (circulation: 15,000)

All the while, she has done film work like standing in for Debbie Reynolds…there have been commercial jingles, many for Irwin Toys as the voice of a little girl. She studied animation voice acting in Los Angeles and Toronto, and jazz dance as well as Comedy Improv at Second City and Theatresports.

Kathy composed, published and distributed 3 independent recordings on CD which still receive Canadian airplay, most notably her Christmas favorite "The Gift of Love". She won a Scarborough Arts Council Award for one of her original country songs. She was featured singing the music of Harry James in the Toronto Jazz Festival, Canada Day ’99, and is currently a principal performer as the groom’s mother in the hilarious Canadian live improv show "Joey & Gina’s Comedy Wedding" as the bucksome "Hot Mama" Giovanna Prosciutto! Today, Kathy still performs big band jazz, songwriting, publishing and enjoys privately coaching voice and singing for speakers, pop singers and groups…her company is called VOICES ALIVE!

Singing with the Etobicoke Swing Orchestra conducted by trumpeteer John Liddle, at the Boulevard Club in Toronto, Valentine's Day 2000.
At the Constellation Hotel in the 70's singing with the Alan Cohen Orchestra. Musicians on the stage that evening included Barry Romberg on drums, Steve Lucas on bass, and Alan on keyboards.
My favourite picture of the Kathy Thompson Band taken in the early 90's. Musicians in this picture are Brad Lovatt, Ed Wise, Peter Jeffrey, Steve Heathcote and Rick Morrison.
With Murray McLoughlin at the Toronto Musician's Association hall in the mid-90's.
As a Founding Member of the Singer's Guild of Toronto, one of the highlights for me was to organize a backstage meeting for the group with Donny Osmond when he was starring in "Joesph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". Even after a demanding show, he couldn't have been more gracious with his time as we talked about singing.
Dress rehearsals on stage should be taken as seriously as the performance (but be careful not to work out too hard prior to the actual performance.)
I enjoyed a guest appearance with my Ottawa friends in the R.C.A.F. Central band when they appeared for a summer concert at Nathan Phillip's Square.
